Building Local Capacity for Integrated Risk Assessment, Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality, Dhading

Under the Promoting Anticipatory Actions to Address Climate and Environment Risks for Community Transformation (PROAACT) project, being implemented in Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality, Dhading, in partnership with ICIMOD under the EU–UNEP Partnership on Climate, Environment, and Stability, a two-day capacity-building program was organized, aimed at strengthening local capacities for Local Integrated Risk Assessment, contributing to locally led adaptation planning to better address the environmental and climatic risk.

Through learning-by-doing approach of the capacity-building program guided by ICIMOD’s Systematic Participatory Foresight Toolkit strengthened the knowledge and capacities of 38 local community members, including municipal staff, elected representatives, and other associated local stakeholders on a range of participatory analytical, planning, and dialogue tools. The trained community representatives were subsequently mobilized to generate and validate community-owned evidence, identify and prioritize local climate and environmental risks, vulnerabilities, governance challenges, socio-economic conflicts related to climate and environment, and structural inequalities across the different communities in Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality. The local community member emphasizes the need for inclusive, evidence-based, locally-led, and context-specific development, planning and decision-making.
